• One of the greatest talents of his generation, few players have been as successful in both rugby codes as Jonathan Davies. He caused a major sensation when he left Wales and Rugby Union for the professional league.

A dynamic points scorer, Jonathan steered his country to third place in the World Cup and a Triple Crown. He was voted World Player of the Year in successive years before making his controversial move to Widnes, where he quickly silenced the naysayers and was named Players’ Player of the Year in his first full season.

Perhaps the biggest attributes of Jonathan’s game were his fitness and physical commitment. With a smaller stature than most in the sport, he also displayed a remarkable ability to adapt. When he returned to Wales, more than ten years after his international debut, it was no surprise that he was still good enough to make the first team.

Since his retirement, Jonathan has continued his association with rugby, working for the BBC as a commentator and broadcaster on both codes of the game; and in both English and Welsh languages. In 2015 Davies was awarded the OBE for his charitable services to people with cancer through his role as president of Cardiff’s Velindre Cancer Centre. He has raised the Centre’s profile as well as raising more than £10 million.
